Job Description Summary:
Job ID = 6469 The Assistive Technology Student Associate will assist the Accessible Technology (AT) Team in supporting accessibility fundamentals across the University by providing information and services to enhance equal access for students with and without disabilities. The AT Team is responsible for accessibility policy, procurement and testing of documents, websites, and applications for accessibility.
Provide technical assistance functions to the Accessible Technology Team
Perform administrative duties including reports for data tracking and office support
Provide assistive technology assistance and training to faculty, staff and students
Inventory, issue and collect assistive technology; may include cleaning, moving, installing, and repairing equipment
Assist with creating alternative text files including, but not limited to, working through basic editing tasks, performing PDF file conversion, and extracting data from publisher PDF files or scanned images
Assist with creating closed captioning files for videos
Participate in multiple projects and timelines and ensure they are on-track for successful completion
Assist in gathering information, writing, and/or recording technical documents, tutorials and other publications
Provide phone and walk-in support to faculty, staff and students
Fulfilling other duties as assigned.
Hours per week:
10-22 hours during Spring and Fall Semesters. 10-40 hours during Summer and Winter Semesters (40 hours do not apply if taking classes during these breaks).
Work Hours/ Schedule:
We offer flexible work schedules and will work around unscheduled course requirements. During active school semesters student staff must work a minimum of 10 and up to 22 hours (between the hours of 7:30am and 5:30pm). During the summer and winter terms student staff can work a minimum of 15 hours and a maximum of 40 hours (between the hours of 7:30am to 5:00pm). If you are taking summer classes, you can ONLY work a maximum of 22 hours.
If applying for summer positions, strong consideration will be given to candidates who will want to continue working into the Fall Semester.
Additional Expectations:
Must be punctual to work
Refrain from using personal technology during scheduled work hours
Duties/Physical Demands:
Employees may be required to sit for long periods of time.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to learn new technologies and follow instructions while working independently
Strong organizational skills with emphasis on being conscientious and detail-oriented
Demonstrate ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work with minimal supervision in a team environment to meet project deadlines
Applicants must commit to working a minimum of 10 hours per week
One must be able to proofread spell, and work in detail
Keyboarding skills required
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Google Tools, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Web-Based Apps, Mobile Technologies, Online Research, and Technical Troubleshooting
Understanding of HTML
Experience conducting accessibility testing for applications/websites
Experience writing technical documentation
Experience creating flowcharts and diagrams that support process design
Students with experience in math, science, technology, engineering, and a foreign language are highly sought
Knowledge in the following technology a plus:
Jaws, Read&Write (free download to all students), Microsoft Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Acrobat Professional, Google Products (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Chat), YouTube

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
