Assistant Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor and Director of Athletic Bands
The Department of Music at Miami University is housed within the College of Creative Arts, a division that also comprises the departments of Architecture + Interior Design, Art, Interactive Media Studies, and Theatre. The CCA further offers degrees or programming in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship, Dance, Fashion, Museums and Society, and Music Theatre. Undergraduate enrollment in the Department of Music is slightly over 200 majors, in degree plans including Music Education, Music Performance, Music Composition, and the Bachelor of Arts in Music. The Department offers a resident Master's degree in Music Performance, and a summers-only Master's degree in Music Education. The Department is an accredited member of NASM, the National Association of Schools of Music.
Duties/Physical Demands:
Supervise, rehearse, teach and conduct the Miami University Marching Band and Symphony Band; supervise all Athletic Band activities in accordance with Divisional and Departmental expectations; teach undergraduate courses in music education; advise students; provide service to the institution.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree required for appointment as Assistant Lecturer; Doctorate (D.M.A. Ph.D., D.M.) required for appointment as Assistant Teaching Professor. Undergraduate or graduate degree in music education, with a minimum three years of public school teaching in instrumental music.
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident, admitted for residence as an applicant under the 1986 immigration amnesty law, refugee or asylee.
Preferred Qualifications:
Consideration may be given to applicants who have experience with university marching/athletic bands.
Additional materials, including video or audio media may be requested at a later date. The references listed in application whould be individuals familiar with candidate's most recent work.
