Performs a variety of tasks related to assisting in the preparation and serving of meals for University students and guests. This job will offer many opportunities for interacting with various university personnel. Our customers include the Board of Trustees, Alumni, faculty, staff and many offices and departments.
The position is on an on-going basis, as needed (part time intermittent, 0-28 hrs. per week) for Miami Catering. Scheduling is completed on a weekly basis and is order/event driven and variable. Hours includes mornings, evenings and weekends. Staffed events are held primarily at the Shriver Center, Marcum Center, Armstrong Student Center and Goggin Ice Arena. May also include off-site events and delivery/drop off orders.
Duties/Physical Demands:
Preparation and set-up of dining areas which may include: setting guest table and buffet linens, stocking/setting up buffets, beverage stations, dessert stations, brewing beverages, placing table settings and moving equipment.
Meal service including: lifting/carrying trays, filling glasses, pouring beverages; restocking buffet pans and beverage stations, clearing and scraping plates, and doing dishes.
Event tear down including: removal of all china, silverware, glassware from guest tables, breaking down, cleaning and removing all chafing dishes from buffet tables, clearing and restocking glassware and all equipment used during the event.
Providing excellent customer service
Maintains clean and sanitary work area, especially in kitchen and dining areas which may include: sweeping, scrubbing, cleaning tables, countertops, and machines; washing dishes and utensils
Ensures safety of food and food contact surfaces while maintaining sanitation standards. Observes strict safety rules.
Event preparation including: Polishing flatware/glassware, reading event orders and organize/gather equipment, paper service, china, restocking shelves, cleaning, etc.
May stock serving line and/or serve food; monitors condition of items in both unrefrigerated and refrigerated settings such as salad bars; may operate cash register.
Reads and interprets event services orders to ensure all of the required equipment and food items are on the order
Maintains all food items at proper temperatures as instructed.
Responds to client requests for service, special diets, as well as other information in a friendly and helpful manner and direct information appropriately to the event manager or chef.
Assists in providing guidance to other employees in the performance of their duties; coordinates efficient work flow and instructs in the proper use of equipment and utensils.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a High school diploma or GED.
No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of three months bartending experience.
Valid driver's license

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
